Project OvervieW

Challenge:

Create a user-friendly and accessible portal that encourages customers of Telefonica Brasil from diverse demographics and technical backgrounds to register, comprehend the voting process, and actively engage in selecting representatives for the User Council. Ensure that all information and instructions are expressed clearly in Brazilian Portuguese, tailoring the content specifically to the target audience and eliminating any ambiguity that might result in confusion or disengagement. Design the portal to align with Anatel's specific requirements for user representation, ensuring a fair and transparent election process in compliance with Brazilian regulations.

Objectives

  • Maximize user registration and participation: Streamline the registration process and make voting intuitive and effortless to encourage broad participation from all eligible user categories.
  • Enhance accessibility and inclusivity: Achieve WCAG Level AA compliance and adhere to Brazilian accessibility standards to ensure everyone, regardless of ability, can easily access and navigate the portal.
  • Build trust and transparency: Provide clear and concise information about the User Council, its role, and the voting process to foster trust and awareness among users.
  • Guarantee representation compliance: Design the portal's functionalities to align with Anatel's specific requirements for user representation, including quotas for different user categories and ensuring fair voting procedures.

Additional Considerations:

  • Mobile-first approach: Optimize the portal for mobile devices, considering the high mobile penetration in Brazil.
  • Multilingual support (future): While prioritizing Portuguese for launch, consider incorporating English or Spanish support in future iterations to cater to international users.
  • Ongoing user research and feedback: Continuously iterate and improve the portal based on user feedback and accessibility audits to maintain a user-centric and inclusive experience.
Note: The website is exclusively available in Brazilian Portuguese to ensure clear communication with the target audience in Brazil.

Research Project History and Background

The project's foundation was laid through a detailed document encompassing technical intricacies and business perspectives. This document served as a cornerstone, shedding light on the project's initiation, goals, and the hurdles it aimed to overcome. The foundation of this project was laid through a detailed document encompassing both technical intricacies and business perspectives. This document acted as a cornerstone, shedding light on the project's initiation, its goals, and the hurdles it aimed to overcome.

Challenges and Previous Flow

Outlined within the document were critical challenges, notably the website's desktop incompatibility, lack of accessibility features, and a cumbersome user flow. Addressing these issues was pivotal not only for a seamless user experience, but also to align with Anatel regulations. The visual below is publicly available data.

Anatel Compliance

Anatel significantly influenced the project's scope and objectives as the regulatory authority. Conforming to Anatel's requirements was not just a goal but a driving force behind the project.

Accountable Biases Consideration

Acknowledging the importance of unbiased decision-making, the project team committed to being aware of and accountable for any biases that might influence the design and implementation phases.

Data Limitations

Due to Non-Disclosure Agreements (NDA) and LGPD (Lei Geral de Proteção de Dados) restrictions, sharing specific project-related documents or data wasn't allowed, posing constraints on data collection and analysis during the research phase.

User Survey and Interviews

The project scope did not include user surveys or interviews due to constraints and the document's focus on a more technical and compliance-centric approach.

Project Main Document

The comprehensive document, serving as a repository of project history, offered insights into challenges, Anatel compliance needs, and limitations imposed by LGPD. It played a pivotal role in guiding the team toward a thorough understanding of the project's background and objectives.

In summary, the project's research heavily leaned on a detailed document encompassing technical and business aspects. It delved into challenges, emphasized Anatel compliance, and navigated through LGPD limitations. While user surveys and interviews weren't pursued, the document acted as a valuable guide in shaping the project's trajectory. The team, committed to accountability, also considered biases throughout the process.

Lean Inception:

Moving forward, I conduct a Lean Inception with two or team members, engaging in specific activities:

  • Product Vision (10 minutes):Each participant shares their view of the product, its features, and purpose. Timing each step, they fill in gaps with their insights, sending responses for discussion and convergence into a unified vision.
  • How Might We? (2 minutes):We identify main pain points and reasons, group the problems, and then each participant has 2 minutes to choose up to 2 problems to prioritize.
  • Crazy 8 (16 minutes):Each member generates eight distinct ideas based on previous discussions. The focus is not on storyboards or navigation flows but on divergent ideas. Each sketch is limited to about 60 seconds.

With all these activities completed and the material consolidated, I begin creating the project's initial wireframes. This meticulous approach, involving active team collaboration, establishes a solid foundation for developing high-quality UX/UI solutions.

Summary

So, here's what I've learned during this project, and let me wrap it up for you!

Lessons Learned

  • Anatel Compliance is Key: The Anatel regulatory framework significantly shaped our project's scope. I realized the importance of understanding and adhering to specific industry regulations right from the start.
  • User-Centered Design is a Must: We dove deep into designing for all users, including those with special needs. It became clear that a user-friendly, accessible interface is non-negotiable in today's digital landscape.
  • Documentation is Gold: That comprehensive project document was our North Star. It showed how essential thorough documentation is for any project, providing context and history.
  • Error Handling Matters: Visualizing potential errors and creating clear, actionable error messages turned out to be crucial for a smooth user experience. Nobody likes getting stuck.
  • The Mobile-First Approach: We learned the significance of designing for mobile devices in today's world. People access websites from their phones more often than not.

Conclusion:

In the end, this project was a rollercoaster of challenges and triumphs. It reminded me that technology and compliance can go hand-in-hand, and a clear understanding of both is essential for a successful project. We overcame the obstacles, ensuring that the Vivo Conselho de Usuarios website not only met Anatel requirements but also delivered a seamless, accessible, and user-friendly experience.

I believe that these lessons and our dedicated team have created a platform that truly serves the needs of users.

Our journey taught me that the tech world is ever-evolving, and it's essential to adapt, learn, and design with the user at the forefront.

So, that's the wrap on this project, and it's been a rewarding experience. Here's to creating better, more accessible digital spaces for everyone! 🚀
